ABA & Angelman Syndrome

By the Autumn ABA clinical team · BCBA-led, in-home ABA across New Jersey

Angelman syndrome is a genetic condition that affects development and communication. ABA can support skill-building — especially communication — alongside the medical and therapy team.

Focusing on communication and skills

Children with Angelman syndrome are often very social but have significant communication challenges and may be minimally verbal. ABA can support functional communication (including AAC), play, and daily-living skills, building on the joyful, social nature many of these children share — while medical care is led by physicians.

Part of a larger team

Angelman syndrome involves complex needs (which can include seizures and movement differences) managed medically. ABA coordinates with the family, physicians, and other therapists. ABA complements, and does not replace, the medical care Angelman syndrome requires. Related: nonverbal autism.

Frequently asked questions

Can ABA help a child with Angelman syndrome?

Yes — ABA can support functional communication (including AAC), play, and daily-living skills, building on the social nature many of these children share, while coordinating with the medical and therapy team.

Does ABA treat Angelman syndrome?

No. Angelman syndrome is managed medically by physicians. ABA supports developmental and communication skills and complements, not replaces, that care.
