The BCBA is the clinician at the center of your child’s ABA program. Understanding their role helps you know what quality care looks like.
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master’s-level clinician who has completed specialized graduate coursework, supervised fieldwork, and a rigorous certification exam. The BCBA assesses your child, designs the individualized treatment plan, sets and adjusts goals, and supervises everyone delivering therapy.
Day-to-day sessions are often delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), but the BCBA stays closely involved — reviewing data, refining the plan, and ensuring quality and consistency. Strong BCBA supervision is a hallmark of effective, ethical ABA. Learn the BCBA vs. RBT roles.
